The "Hint"
Without cutting single three letter boxes we could arrange them in alphabetical order revealing this pattern:
This might hint towards using Memory Fragment 1 and Memory Fragment 2 to reveal fragment 3.
This interpretation become only clear after we understood how to solve the puzzle.
The message
Cutting the three letter boxes allows to combine them in a way to reveal three messages. The first letters make up the known Memory Fragment 1 message and the second letters the Memory Fragment 2 message. Since both messages are known the layout is straight forward (as soon as the mechanism was figured out)
revealing the third message from the third letters:
IT HAILED FROM A WORLD OF ALCHEMISTS WHO HAD BROUGHT FORTH THEIR FINAL DEMISE
